Hikers should arrive at the meeting location at least 15 minutes early. This will enable the leader to complete sign-ups and start the hike on time. When adverse weather conditions prevail, the leader may reroute, shorten or cancel a hike. It is a good idea to check with the leader ahead of time if the weather is inclement.

Sunday, June 1

9:00 AM WABASH HERITAGE TRAIL This is a great hike along the Wabash River near Lafayette that we haven’t done for three years. Allow 1½ hours travel. Drive north on I-65 to SR 43 (exit 178). Turn left on SR 43 south and go ½ mile to Burnette Road. Turn left and go 0.4 mile to 9th Street. Turn left and go 1.6 miles to the Tippecanoe Battlefield parking lot on your left. This is a 17-mile hike with shorter options of 13 and 7 miles. If it is very warm we will probably cut the hike to 13 miles. Bring lunch and water. (F,NS,3) Leader: Ed Wright (219-5536)

9:00 AM WALK AND WORSHIP From I-465 N, exit on Michigan Road heading south, turn left at first light (92nd. St.) and go ¼ mile to Pyramids. Meet in the parking lot for the Pyramids. This will be a 4-5 mile walk on paved roads followed by an optional 45-minute non-denominational and contemporary religious service inside Beef & Boards. Walking clothes are fine and there will be coffee, bagels, donuts, etc. Hope you stay for the inspirational service at the Garden. Bring the kids. Repeats each Sunday in June and July. 6:00 PM PACING ON THE PENNSY Note, this hike was previously scheduled on Wednesday afternoons. Enjoy a 6-mile hike on the paved Pennsy Trail.  From I-465 on the east side take I-70 east to Greenfield exit. Turn right on New Road to Broadway, left on Broadway to US 40. 9:00 AM OLD GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH Park along east side of Pennsylvania St. just north of 40th St. in front of the former Greek Orthodox Church for a 7-mile hike with a 5-mile option. (F,PS,3.5) Leader: Michele Kestle (251-7157)

Wednesday, June 4

8:30 AM WEDNESDAY MORNINGS ON THE CANAL Park at the White River Park Visitors Center on West Washington Street across from Victory Field, for an easy 5-6 mile hike on the canal and other downtown locations. If an event prevents you from parking at White River State Park, go to the southeast corner of the zoo lot and Reba will meet you there.  Repeats each Wednesday in June and July. 4:30 PM EXPLORE ZIONSVILLE From I-465N exit at Michigan Road and go north. Turn left on 116th Street and drive to downtown Zionsville and take SR 334 west. Meet in the parking lot of the Zionsville Town Hall at 1100 W. Oak Street (SR 334) across from McDonalds. This will be a 6-mile hike through quaint neighborhoods, the Zionsville Rail Trail and possibly Starkey Park. Repeats each Wednesday in June and July. (F,PS,3.5) Leader: Rena Elsner (873-6526).

5:00 PM CARMEL CONCERT HIKE Meet in the parking lot behind Shapiro's, 918 S. Rangeline Road in Carmel for a 5-6 mile hike in and around Carmel. Hike will end around 6:45 PM.  Join us afterwards for a free concert at 7:00 PM. Bring your chair or blanket and a picnic basket. You may purchase sandwiches at several nearby locations. 9:30 AM EASY AT EAGLE CREEK Meet at the Earth Discovery Center parking lot in Eagle Creek Park (fee), which is located off of west 56th Street, just west of the Colts facility. Join us for a moderately paced (3.0 MPH) 5-mile trail hike or one of several slower/shorter options. Repeats each Thursday in June and July. 6:00 PM FORT HARRISON/LAWRENCE From I-465 on the east side take 56th Street east.  Turn left on Lee Road. Meet in the back parking lot of the Fort Harrison YMCA on Lee Road for 5-7 mile hike. 6:00 PM SCHOOL TO SCHOOL AND PERRY WOODS Meet at Southport Middle School at 5715 South

Friday, June 6

7:30 AM EARLY BIRD IN ZIONSVILLE I-465N exit at Michigan Rd. and go north.  Turn left on 116th St. and drive to downtown Zionsville and take SR 334 west.  Meet in the parking lot of the Zionsville Town Hall at 1100 W. Oak Street (SR334) across from McDonalds.  This will be a 6-mile hike through quaint neighborhoods, the Zionsville Rail Trail and possibly Starkey Park.  Repeats each Friday in June and July. 9:30 AM GARFIELD PARK/PLEASANT RUN TRAIL From I-70 in downtown Indy, take I-65 south. Exit I-65 at Raymond Street (exit 109) and go right (west) on Raymond for about 1/2 mile. Turn left (south) onto Pleasant Run Parkway N. Dr. and go to the next stoplight. Turn left onto Pagoda Drive; then turn left again and park in the swimming pool parking lot. This is a 5-6 mile hike on the Pleasant Run Trail.   There is a restroom break at beginning and halfway through the hike. Repeats each Friday in June and July. 6:00 PM OVER, AROUND & THROUGH IUPUI Meet in downtown Shapiro’s Deli lot, 808 S. Meridian, for a 6-mile hike. Repeats every Friday in June and July. (F,PS,3.5) Leader: Rick Kinnaman (861-3979)

6:00 PM LAWRENCE From I-465 on the east side take 56th Street east.  Shortly after you pass Lawrence Central HS (on your left) turn right into Belzer Middle School. Saturday, June 7

8:00 AM FRANKLIN TRAIL, COLLEGE AND ROSES Follow US 31 South through Franklin past the intersection of SR 44 & 31. Go over Young's Creek and turn left at the Indiana Masonic sign. Go 0.8 miles to the Beeson Recreation Center on left. Park in the lot to the west of the building, not in the north lot as we used to do. Hike is 10 miles with a 3 and 5-mile option. 9:30 AM SLOW WALK ON UPPER FALL CREEK TRAIL Park along Fall Creek Parkway between Emerson and East 56th Street for a walk of 4-5 miles. (F,PS,2.5) Leader: Marsha Hutchins (251-9078 or 439-1468-cell)

9:30 AM BROAD RIPPLE TO WILLIAMS CREEK Meet in the free parking lot that is ½ block south of Broad Ripple Ave. on Carrollton Ave. for an 8-mile hike. (F,PS,3-3.5) Leader: Michele Kestle (251-7157)

9:30 AM SALAMONIE RESERVIOR BLOODROOT HIKE Allow 2 hours travel time. Take I-69 north and exit on SR 5 (Huntington/Warren exit). Go north 1 mile and turn west on SR 124. Go through Mt. Etna (approx. 6 mi.) and continue on SR 124 across SR 9. Go 0.4 mi. beyond SR 9 and turn at Mt. Etna SRA sign. Go 0.3 mi. and turn left on first road beyond trailer park to parking lot. 1:30 PM WHITEWATER GORGE Take I-70 east for approximately 60 miles to Richmond, IN Exit 149A (Rt. 35). Go south to 1st traffic light (very short distance) and turn left onto Industries Road. Go to old railroad crossing at bottom of dip in road and turn right into the Cardinal Greenway trailhead parking lot. If lot is full, park across the street. No bathroom facilities on trail. This is a 5-mile hike on natural trails, sometimes rugged, with white cliffs and swinging bridge, and 4 miles back on asphalt walkway (9 miles total). Bring water. 7:00 PM EUCHRE PARTY If you know how to play Euchre and would like to join other members of the IHC for a night of Euchre please join us at 615 W. 43rd St. in "The Commons", a building behind the Unitarian Universalist Church at that address. 10:00 AM MONON TRAIL IN CARMEL From North Meridian go east on 106th St. 1.5 miles to Westfield Blvd. Turn left (north) on Westfield and go about 0.7 miles. Park entrance (look for sign) will be on your left just past 111th St. Meet in parking lot at end of drive. We will meet on the Monon Trail under the bridge between the two buildings near the skateboard park. This will be a 7-mile self-guided* hike on the Monon Trail to 146th Street and back, with shorter options. Repeats on July 6. (F,PS) Leader: Jim Robinson (587-0066).

1:00 PM SUNDAY STROLL AT SAHM PARK From I-465 on the north side, go north on Allisonville Road to 91st Street. Turn right (east) and go 0.8 mile to park entrance. 9:30 AM DOWNTOWN AND EITELJORG MUSEUM Meet at the White River State Park Visitor Center parking lot, across from Victory Field on W. Wash. Street.  This is a 5-mile hike that will include walking along the canal and ending at the Eiteljorg museum.  Join us for lunch afterwards at the Eiteljorg Sky City Cafe (no fee) followed by an optional guided tour by Claudia Clark of the special exhibit on Yosemite National Park featuring 80 photos and paintings (many by Ansel Adams) and a tour of the Indian cultural items and Western paintings.  Reduced group fee of $5 for seniors over 65 and $6 for others. 9:30 AM SLOW WALK IN NORTH MERIDIAN STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT This walk is based in part on the book The Main Stem:  The History & Architecture of North Meridian Street. From North Meridian, go west on 56th Street two blocks. Turn left onto Kenwood and park along the street to the west of the CVS/Pharmacy for a walk of 4-5 miles. 2:00 PM MILE AND CHOW HIKE Meet in the parking lot in front of Sawmill Woods Elementary School. Take I-65 south to the Whiteland exit (Exit 95), turn right (west) on Whiteland Road and continue past US 31 to the 2nd stop sign; turn right on Sawmill Road and go about ½ mile. School is on the left. Or take US 31 to Tracy Road (Shell Gas station on corner) and turn right. At the 2nd stop sign, turn left on Sawmill Road and go about ½ mile. School is on your right. After our 6-MILE hike through New Whiteland neighborhoods, we will CHOW at my house on burgers, brats, and beer. Everyone is welcome. Bring folding lawn chairs. 5:00 PM LITTLE EAGLE CREEK Take Michigan Road north from I-465 to Willow Road (131st Street). Turn right and continue for almost 1 mile through the Austin Oaks subdivision to the clubhouse parking lot on your right. This 9-mile hike follows the scenic Little Eagle Creek watershed to a historic cemetery and back through various attractive housing areas, farm fields and country roads. Sunday, June 15 Happy Fathers Day

8:00 AM Reed Road soccer park and Eagle Creek Meet in Eagle Creek Park (fee) at lot just inside 56th Street entrance. This will be a 6-mile hike in Eagle Creek Park and the soccer park trails off Reed Road outside the park. (M,NS/PS,3.5-4) Leader: Joan Griffitts (297-7312)

9:30 AM WHITEWATER MEMORIAL STATE PARK I Allow about 2 hours from I-465. Take US 52 southeast from I-465 to Rushville then take SR 44 east to Liberty, IN. Turn right (south) at the courthouse and follow SR 101 to park entrance (fee). Follow park road to the parking lot for the boat rentals (if you cross the dam, you have gone too far). 9:30 AM CLIFTON GORGE & JOHN BRYON STATE PARK Allow 2½ hours from I-465 (130 miles) taking I-70 East to Rt. 72 (Exit 54) in Ohio. Go south (right) on Rt. 72 to Clifton. Turn right at the mill on Water Street. Go to curve at end of street and park in Park parking lot. This is a 6-8 mile woods hike along the Little Miami River. Listen to rushing water in western Ohio's most scenic state park. After hike, tour, shop and eat lunch at an operational gristmill. 1:00 PM CENTRAL PARK IN CARMEL AND COOKOUT From North Meridian go east on 106th St. 1.5 miles to Westfield Blvd. Turn left (north) on Westfield and go about 0.7 miles. Park entrance (look for sign) will be on your left just past 111th St. Meet in parking lot at end of drive for a 5-6 mile hike. We will hike in and around park and tour the Monon Center. 8:00 AM KNOBSTONE TRAIL VI - NEW CHAPEL HILL TO JACKSON RD. TRAILHEADS This 18-mile hike includes the New Chapel Hill to Jackson Rd segment (12.0 miles) of the Knobstone Trail and 6 miles of back roads. It includes several hills, overlooks of surrounding countryside, and, on a clear day, Louisville. Hiking boots, poles, lunch and plenty of water are a MUST. Allow 2 – 2 ¼ hrs of travel time from I-465 on the south side. Go 87 miles on I-65 south to Henryville Exit then 5.3 miles on SR 160 west to New Liberty. Continue another ¼ mile, turn north (right) on S Liberty Knob Rd (CR-500 S) and go about 0.3-0.4 miles to New Chapel Hill Trailhead entrance drive (KT sign post) on your right (east) (N38º 38.34.460' W85º 52.425'). THE TRAILHEAD ACCOMODATES ONLY 3-4 CARS. Carpool location: Exit I-65 at Southport Rd and turn left back over I-65. Turn right at 2nd light (Emerson Ave.) Meet by 5:45 AM in the northeast corner of the Menards parking lot on your right. (M,NS/PS/HS,2-3). 9:00 AM MOSCOW COVERED BRIDGE FESTIVAL Allow an hour travel from I-465 on the south side. Take I-74 southeast towards Cincinnati. Go to Exit 119 - Milroy/Andersonville (25 miles). Turn left (east) on SR 244. Go 7 miles to CR 650W and turn right. You will see a sign for Moscow. Go into Moscow and park. Do not park by the bridge; ample parking is available other places. We will meet at the covered bridge for a 7-10 mile walk, with shorter options. We will see two covered bridges and a historic church. Join us after the hike for Bluegrass music, Amish food and festivities. At 1:30 PM you are invited to tour The Uncommon Herb Farm on SR 244, which is 3 miles east of I-74. The owner, Sharon Sever, will conduct a tour and give a brief talk about herbs.  Sharon conducts informative talks and classes at museums.  After the tour you will have an opportunity to shop. This is a unique farm that will be closing after this year. So for those who have asked in the past to visit Sharon’s gardens this likely will be your only opportunity. 9:00 AM BROWN COUNTY Take SR 135 south through Nashville or I-65 South to SR 46 West to the park (fee). After entering the park, follow signs to the campground. Turn to your right when you see the sign for the campground registration. On your immediate right and just before you go through the campground gate is the parking lot for the Rally Campground and Ogle Hollow Nature Preserve. Meet there for a 10-mile hike on trails. Bring snacks & water. We can go to the Corn Crib Lounge afterwards. Repeats July 12. 9:30 AM    SLOW HISTORIC WALK FROM CANTERBURY PARK TO OLIVER JOHNSON WOODS This walk is based in part on the book Home in the Woods:  Pioneer Life in Indiana:  Oliver Johnson's Reminiscences of Early Marion County as related by Howard Johnson.  There are no restrooms at the park, so you may want to make a stop at one of the fast food restaurants on Keystone near 54th Street.  Then go west on 54th for several blocks past the American Village to Carvel Avenue which is just before the Monon Trail.  Go north on Carvel a block or two and park along the street beside the park.  There will be a restroom break in the middle of this walk of 4-5 miles.  (F,PS,2.5)  Leader:  Marsha Hutchins (251-9078 or cell 439-1468)
