This years Achievement Awards and new 25 year members were announced at the Winter Banquet on December 4, 2022. All told, 43 different individuals won a total of 58 Achievement awards; obviously some members won more than one award. This year's winners each received a Carolina blue long sleeve tee shirt featuring the traditional Club logo of a man and women hiker and "2022 Achievement Award" below the logo (see photo). This year we also had a record number of 12 new 25 year members, most were present at the banquet; they each received an ingraved paperweight.
Allan Roberts - Allan deserves special recognition this year, since he hiked the most miles ever in one year 3,718 breaking (or might we say smashing) the record previously held by Glee Crowder of 3,398 miles. Tish Brafford Rick Braun Debbie Bucholz Marti Burton Cheryl Conces Dewey Conces Dori Davis Ron Elkins Sandy Fillenwarth - Sandy rejoined the Club after a many year absence and didn't resume hiking until March, but she still managed to achieve over 1,000 miles in a little over 7 months. The Trail Blazer Award is given to any member who led 15 or more different hikes during the past year. Everyone enjoys an new hike and this is one of the more difficult awards to win. here is a photo of the 5 of the 7 winners who were at the banquet.

Trail Maintenance Award
This award is given to any member who has contributed 16 or more volunteer hours on a trail maintenance project, although most of this years winners go far beyond that, sometimes volunteering 100 or more hours of their time to give something back to the trails we all love to hike, mostly in Eagle Creek Park. Here are the six winners:
Phil Coons Gary Fine Russ Himes Ned Lewis Frank Povinelli Narcisso Povinelli
Club Service Award
This award is given by the Board of Directors to any member the board feels deserves special recognition for their service to the Club. This year the board has chosen recognize Rick Kinnaman. He was not at the banquet to receive his award, since he was home recovering from recent foot surgery. Rick is being honored because of his continued volunteering to lead hikes (at least 4 different ones in the most recent schedule) for others, something he has done for many years. These hikes in all probability would have been cancelled had Rick not volunteered to lead them. Even when he is physically unable to hike himself he often shows up just to sign up others.
It come as no surprise to anyone in the Club that Phil Coons once again won this award for supplying the most photos to the Club website and Facebook page, which Phil also maintains. Here is a photo of Phil.
Sorry to say there was no winner of the Bill and Nell Larrison Pinnacle Award this year. This award is very difficult to win and only two members have ever won it - Glee Crowder and David Kincaid. To win this award you must hike over 1,000 miles, lead over 50 hikes, lead 12 different hikes and contribute 16 or more hours of trail maintenance.
